AMAICHA DEL VALLE
Amaicha (pronounced without stress) has the privilege of being one of the best microclimates in the country. Studies made by the National Secretariat for Sports indicate that it is the ideal place for practicing high-performance climbing. Beyond that, Amaicha is known for its craft products and how well it retains its proud past. There are basic accommodation services and a campsite with hot water, swimming pool and other amenities.
History: Over more than 200 years the descendants of the chieftain Francisco Chapurfe have been managing these lands through a society, the Community of Amaicha, one of a kind indigenous organization in northwest Argentina. Nowadays is a small town famous for its craftsmen and weavers of carpets. The beautiful central square congregates around the main public buildings, standing out the church.
The origins of this settlement go back to pre-Columbian times and that is why it is not uncommon to find in the vicinity lots of small archaeological sites.
Ruta0 recommendation: In February is the Feast of the Pachamama, which thanks to Mother Earth and fertility is asked to crops and livestock. It is usually celebrated at the same time as the carnival; people meet in the square and get up pascanas, small stands where they sell regional products and local food. Everything in the middle of the classics joy-joy, torn ballads interspersed with shouts and accompanied by the percussion of a box. The last day of the festivities people chooses between old local women to assume the role of the Pachamama. Richly dressed, is on a carriage accompanied by Ñusta, a young maiden symbol of fertility, Yastay, god of animals and hunting and Pujllay, cheerful spirit of carnival, similar to a faun. Pachamama offers wine from the new crop to participants and is greeted by them and the authorities. It is a unique opportunity to view these colorful festivities whose roots are lost before the conquest of America.
Another attraction you can’t miss at any time of year is the Pachamama Museum Complex
