BUENOS AIRES

The great capital city of Argentina has a European atmosphere. The culture of its people is a unique mixture of Spanish and Italian, and other European and South American countries. Its pubs and cafes remain open until late at night, and some of them don’t even close when dawn comes. Culture is alive on every corner; you can hear rock and roll and Tango everywhere, and you always, I mean you always have something to do on any neighborhood. Its geographic extent and density of population is huge, 40% of Argentinean people lives in this city and its surroundings.

Buenos Aires is modern and antique at the same time, the skyscrapers located in downtown and Retiro areas make contrast with the XIX century buildings of San Telmo and La Boca.

Some places you should visit:

San Telmo : Bohemian area, its architecture shows the heritance of Spanish Colonial times, and later influences of the Italian and other European immigrations. Around Dorrego square there are many antique shops open during the day. At night, this neighborhood comes alive and you can find cafes to dance Tango near rock and roll pubs.

La Boca : Its houses were painted by immigrants in living colors giving to this port neighborhood a funny colorful sight, with long story and current cultural life. Quinquela Martin reflected the life of its neighbors as only a few artist can, you must go to his museum. At night, the taverns offer the fun.

Recoleta : Beyond any doubt it is the most exclusive neighborhood of Buenos Aires with restaurants and high class shops for you to enjoy. The vaults in Recoleta’s cemetery are a must for photographers. Recoleta’s Cultural Center offer several alternatives every day: plays, movies and art galleries. Every weekend you can walk the artisan’s fair, where the “new hippies” and jugglers gather to show their abilities.
