Header of Calchaquí Valley, Cachi is a sleepy oasis amid the dusty RN 40. Cachi in kakana language (the oldest language) means ""salt"". Aborigines confused the silver summit of the peak of Cachi with saline. Its soil is fertile, suitable for planting vegetables and legumes, but above all, the typical product of the region: peppers. It is unforgettable the ride around the area to see when people dry peppers, which paint the landscape with furious red. Viewable mostly everywhere from the town, the magnificent Cachi peak, 6380 mts amsl, beholds the Calchaquí Valleys.

The weather: It is temperate, cold and dry. In summer there are peaks of 27 degrees, and in winter with winds, temperatures may drop to 4ºC.

Getting there: From the city of Salta, it is a beautiful 157km travel through the RP 33 that passes through the Cuesta del Obispo; coming from Cafayate are 162km through the RN 40 (usually impassable due to summer rains).
