METÁN

Its name comes from the word "Lule Mepao" (Town of the honey). It was founded on May 26, 1859 on a land donated by Jose I. Sierra, it was the scene of major historical events, such as the meeting of Güemes, San Martin and Belgrano in the Posta de Yatasto in 1814, the death of Marco Avellaneda in 1841 and the battle of Las Piedras.

Currently, Metán is an active farm-livestock center. It’s at a plateau with mountains to the west of the ¨precordillera¨, and it’s crossed by many rivers and streams that flow down from it. Along the river of Las Conchas and national routes 9 and 34, runs the municipal beach, with amenities. There are modern public buildings and colonial style as the Municipality. On March 19 is celebrated San Jose’s day, local patron
