PASO DE JAMA

It is a passage that in recent years has been receiving special attention by the governments of Argentina and Chile. Both the Argentine and the Chilean side, there is a brand new pavement in excellent condition. It is the most advisable passage from Argentina’s Northwest to Chile, it’s usually in a better condition than the passage of Sico, in Salta, as it is usually not closed due to rain and snow, and is less lonely because it is the most direct route of communication between San Paulo (Brazil) and the Pacific Ocean.

The road to the limit begins from Susques and it crosses extensive typical plains of the puna, with salt pools and volcanic cones of more than 5000 meters above sea level. It is a spectacular road that sometimes climbs above 4000 meters, although its slopes are not very pronounced.
