PUERTO MADRYN

Puerto Madryn is a major tourist resort with beautiful beaches but cold waters, where you can practice water sports. 19 kilometers to the south is Punta Loma, which throughout the year becomes the place where more than 800 specimens of sea lions come to live under the cliffs, while the particular kind of ""one hair"", about 1,500, come to reproduce to the Wildlife Reserve of Punta Piramide. The Reserve of Punta Norte is home to the only colony of elephant seals that live on the mainland. They get that name because of the big nose that males have in the form of a horn. Peninsula Valdes abound in colonies of birds, penguins, sea lions and sea elephants. The Interpretive Center at the Isthmus Ameghino is a great resource if you are interested on information about the native fauna. From October until late December the whales from the south come to the bays Nuevo and San Jose to reproduce and perpetuate their specie. Excursions to contemplate them depart from Port Piramide.
