TUNUYÁN

This prosperous town located in the middle of the Uco Valley is known as the ""Capital of the Apple"", a typical product of the area. There are lots of packing plants, cold storage, concentrates producers and primarily, cider factories. Much people say Tunuyán is also the ""Capital de la Tonada” (Capital of the Tune), arguing that here is where it’s best preserved Mendoza’s authentic folklore. It is a very progressive city and large commercial development with an important infrastructure for the traveler. There is an exclusive fishing place for Siberian salmon in the Finca El Totoral. A good spa is located approximately 15 km., called La Riojita. It has very good amenities and it’s enabled from Nov. 15 until March 20.

The city was founded in 1880 by dividing the departments of Tunuyán and Tupungato. Before the arrival of Spaniards, these lands were inhabited by Tunuyanes. Near the city is the colossal volcano Tupungato ("Earth that trembles," in Araucanian).
